Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) senior leader Tariq Anwar, at a press conference in Patna on Sunday, said Maharashtrian separatist leader Raj Thackeray, by making anti-Bihari statements in Mumbai a couple of days ago, had tried to break the nation on regional lines for political gains and the government must deal with him with an iron hand.
"No one in the country has the right to make statements that could be detrimental to the very sovereignty of the nation and those who do, must be dealt with in a tough manner," the NCP leader said.
Anwar said Thackeray's humiliating defeat in the recent Mumbai Municipal elections was the reason for his frustration and that is why he was making all these nonsensical statements. "People of Maharashtra are no fool though and Thackeray's devious design is bound to backfire on him," the NCP leader said.
Party state president Aqil Haidar and general secretary Mrityunjay Kumar were also present at the press meet.
Meanwhile, protests against Thackeray continued in Patna on Sunday as the members of the Rashtriya Backward and Forward Front burnt the effigy of Maharashtra's disgraced leader.
