Suspected SIMI Activist Grilled

Patna: Mar. 11, 2007

The Patna police and the Intelligence Department officials on Sunday interrogated the suspected Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) operative Haseeb Reza for over five hours during which he admitted of his involvement in a number of anti-India activities, Gandhi Maidan police station in-charge Sabir Ahmed said.

Reza was arrested on Saturday from a home in Phulwarisharif area.

After initial denial, Reza gave a detailed account of his involvement in a number of terroristic incidents, his criminal precedents, and details about his network and associates, the police said.

After Reza's accounts, the district administration has beefed up security in Phulwari area where more raids are being carried out to apprehend other members of the SIMI, a Muslim youth outfit with alleged ties with Pakistan's ISI that had been funding and masterminding terrorist activities in India.
