Bihar Assembly Passes Censure Motion against Thackeray
Patna: Mar. 13, 2007
The leaders in Bihar on Tuesday passed a censure motion against the controversial Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray for making anti-Bihari statements a few days ago.
The House, after turning down the request of adjournment during the zero hour by the Communist Party of India (CPI) legislator Kedar Pandey to discuss Thackeray’s uncharitable words, unanimously passed the motion to censure Thackeray at the proposal of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tarakant Jha.
Leaders from both parties, finally agreeing on at least one issue after two days of high drama in the Assembly, condemned the Maharashtrian leader, and chanted anti-Thackeray slogans in the House.
Calling his anti-Bihari tirades insulting and demeaning for the entire state of Bihar, the leaders appealed to the Speaker of the House to demand from the Maharashtra government legal actions against Raj Thackeray, the nephew of Mumbai godfather Bal Thackeray who quit Shiv Sena to form his own party.
"Statements made by Raj Thackeray is extremely divisive and dangerous to the communal harmony of the entire nation," the motion said.
