Sunil Pandey Escort Team Suspended; Case Filed
Patna: Mar. 15, 2007
Authorities in Patna on Thursday suspended seven policemen for failing to perform their duties in a diligent manner when they allowed expelled Janata Dal (U) MLA from Piro Sunil Pandey to visit his home in Patna while being brought to the state Assembly from Beur Jail on Wednesday.
Officials, at the behest of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kundan Krishnan, also filed an FIR against Pandey and the seven policemen with the Shastrinagar police station for facilitating Pandey's escape from the prison.
Pandey, who has been allowed by the Patna High Court to attend Assembly session while being in judicial custody, on Wednesday, took advantage of the situation and instead of going straight to the state Assembly, talked his police escort team into taking him to his residence.
Prison IG Sandeep Poudrik, while talking to reporters on Thursday, said the Jail Superintendent has approached the District Magistrate to initiate a summary trial for Pandey under which he will be incarcerated for a minimum period of one month without having to frame charges against him.
The suspended JD-U legislator was previously suspended by the party leadership for his involvement in a number of criminal cases including kidnapping and extortion.
