Patna: Mar. 17, 2007
The police in Shastrinagar in Patna recovered an antique statue made of black stone weighing several hundred kilograms from near the pump house by the Officers' Flat on early Saturday morning causing a sensation in the area.
As reported, some people noticed a sack thrown by the side of the road on Saturday morning. When opened, they found the broken statue that, on first glance, appears to belong to the Pala dynasty, officials said.
The statue appears to be of either Lord Vishnu or the Sun God though only the experts would be able to confirm its age and identity, the police said.
Historians and archaeologists have been contacted to examine the statue, they said.
