Trying to extract maximum political mileage from the Begusarai incident during which two people were killed in police firing, the opposition leader and former Chief Minister of Bihar Rabri Devi, on Saturday, while boycotting the Assembly for sixth consecutive day, demanded the resignation of Nitish Kumar and Rs. 10 lakh for the victims' families.
At a press conference convened outside the Assembly building in Patna, the opposition leaders blamed the NDA government for being anti-poor and for 'failing on each front'.
"By ordering a judicial investigation into Begusarai incident, the government is trying to cover-up its crimes," Rabri Devi said while saying Rs. 1 lakh was not enough for the victims' families and the government instead should provide them with Rs. 10 lakh.
"Massive irregularities in the Below Poverty Level (BPL) listing have exposed the true face of the NDA government which is anti-poor and anti-backward. This government is only for the rich people and alleviating poverty is beyond its ability," Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders Abdul Bari Siddiqui and Shyam Rajak said.
Meanwhile, RJD and Congress supporters in Patna on Saturday burnt the effigies of Nitish Kumar demanding his resignation.
