Mithapur Residents Rally against Ban on Crossing Train Tracks
Patna: Mar. 21, 2007
Hundreds of angry men and women living in Mithapur are in Patna, on Wednesday, created a ruckus at Patna Junction protesting the Railway Police's ongoing efforts to catch pedestrians trying to cross over the railway tracks.
According to the protestors, the administration, without making any alternative arrangement for those living on the south side of the railway tracks, started to build a high, concrete wall and those who tried to cross the tracks were picked up by the railway police.
Angry protestors then enveloped the office of the railway superintendent at Patna Junction and demanded the release of all the detainees. Chanting anti-railways slogans, many agitators blocked the railway tracks and climbed up on the 2142 Lokmanya Terminal Superfast Express on platform number 2 causing delay in its departure.
The situation was brought under control only after all the detainees were released and the authorities allowed people living on the south side of the railway station to cross the tracks without fearing arrest until an alternative is found.
