RJD Union Minister's Brother-in-law Arrested
Patna: Mar. 21, 2007
The police in Lakhisarai, acting on credible information, raided the clinic of the brother-in-law of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Central Water Resources Minister Jai Prakash Narain Yadav, and recovered a large supply of fake admit cards, mark sheets, rubber stamps, and test papers of various exams held in Bihar.
The raid was conducted at the house of Dr. Shyam Sundar Yadav, a homeopathic doctor by profession, under the supervision of SDO S. N. Jha after some of the expelled students spilled the bean on Yadav.
As reported, authorities in Lakhisarai on Tuesday had expelled 27 matriculation examinees for indulging in unfair means. 18 of the suspended students did not even belong to the district and when interrogated by the police, they could not even name which school they attended in the district.
Based on the information provided by the expelled students, the police, on Wednesday, raided Yadav's Homeopathic clinic located at Naya Bazaar and recovered fake documents and stamps.
Reports further said that Dr. Yadav tried to intimidate the police by calling his Central Minister brother-in-law. While the minister did not talk to the police, his brother and RJD leader Vijay Prakash Yadav called the SDO and tried to talk him out of the raid.
Jha, however, refused to relent and arrested Dr. Yadav and his only son Rahul Kumar and handed them over to the police.
Dr. Yadav's wife Chitralekha Yadav, incidentally, is the principal of a local college.
The police said Dr. Yadav, in collusion with the Education Department, has amassed properties worth several crore rupees.
