Several dozen under-trial prisoners, after being brought to the civil court from Patna's Beur Jail under extremely tight security arrangement on Thursday, tried to create a riot-like situation by accusing the administration of police brutality and denying them food and water brought to them by their family members.

According to the police, the criminals were brought to the court in two buses under very tight security. Town DSP Sushant Kumar Saroj and Pirbahore police station in-charge Nissar Ahmed was present at the court to ensure no one tried to escape as had been case in the past.

This led to chanting of anti-government slogans and attempts to break the police barricade.

Joining the ruckus, the criminals also started to hurl expletives at the policemen.

The police then resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd and locked all the criminals in the court jail. Authorities denied anyone being injured in the melee though some criminals accused the police of caning their family members.
