Chaiti Chhath Ends; One Feared Drowned in Patna

Patna: Mar. 25, 2007

With the offering of morning 'arghya' on Sunday at various ghats in Bihar, the festival of Chaiti Chhath in the state came to a peaceful end though at least one person was reported to be dead after he drowned while offering 'arghya' early Sunday morning at Krishna Ghat, officials in Patna said.

The victim was identified as Ritesh Kumar of Chhapra who was visiting his relatives in Kankarbagh in Patna.

Divers were engaged in pulling out his body but till the time of reporting, success had eluded them.

Earlier, hundreds of thousands of devotees started to arrive at various ghats in Patna to offer the morning 'arghya'. Those who were unable to make it to the Ganges had to make do with ponds or small bodies of water at their homes.

Volunteers, as usual, played a vital role in making sure the festival passed off without any hitch.
