J&K Governor Favors Indo-Pak Union
Patna: Mar. 25, 2007
Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant General S. K. Sinha, at a seminar organized by the Doctors Organization for Social Action (DOSA) on 'India-Kashmir-Pakistan' issues at Hotel Maurya in Patna on Sunday, said India and Pakistan should form an union on the line of the European union to resolve many of the problems the two countries face today.
"An union like this will foster common interests in the region and may even help resolve some of the problems the two countries face today," Lt. Sinha said.
The Governor, however, criticized Pakistan for failing to follow up on several past agreements including the ceasefire agreement, 1965 agreement, Tashkent agreement followed up by Kargil attack and the promises it made in Islamabad in 2004.
On the issue of Kashmir, Lt. Sinha said that Kashmir was an integral part of India and any question about it is simply not valid. "Even Sheikh Abdullah had agreed with this arrangement following the Independence and the United Nations has also recognized that Kashmir is part of India," he said.
Earlier, DOSA organizer and noted Patna physician Dr. Gopal Prasad Sinha welcomed the guest that also included former Chief Secretary Laxmeshwar Dayal.
