Two–week Assembly Boycott Comes to an End; Finally!
Patna: Mar. 26, 2007
After two weeks of Assembly boycott by the opposition parties, 'normalcy' was restored in the Vidhan Sabha on Monday after the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders expressed their regrets for their disgraceful behavior in the Assembly on March 12 as the Nitish government also withdrew its censure motion against them at the behest of Governor R. S. Gavai.
In a meeting of the working committee of the Assembly, RJD leader Ramchandra Purbe expressed his regrets on behalf of some of his party members' shameful behavior in the Assembly during which they hurled expletives and engaged in acts of vandalism.
At that point, the NDA announced its decision to withdraw the censure motion against the RJD leaders.
While most ruling party members welcomed the opposition leaders back in the Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said by boycotting the House for two weeks to protect an absconding criminal, the RJD leaders undermined the sanctity of the Assembly and the entire democratic system of the nation.
"It is our generosity that we have taken back the censure motion against some RJD leaders who were trying to protect a history-sheeter in spite of the fact that these leaders have yet to apologize for their reprehensible act in the Assembly," Modi said.
