Four Injured in LPG Gas Cylinder Explosion

Kishanganj: Mar. 27, 2007

Four members of a family in Dumaria in Kishanganj were seriously injured when a cooking gas cylinder exploded on early Tuesday morning causing extensive damage to the building as the family slept, reports said.

The incident occurred in the house of one Chandrashekhar Singh, a tenant of Dumaria resident Shivshankar Prasad Srivastava.

Other tenants in the building, as reported, had smelt the leaking gas on Monday night. They asked all others in the building to make sure there was no leak from their LPG tank. Unfortunately, the members of Singh had already gone to their beds and could not be asked to check their gas cylinders, the son of the owner of the building said.

The explosion took place around 2:00 on Tuesday morning. Singh, his wife, and their two children, son (10) and daughter (8) were badly burnt in the explosion and were rushed to a local medical college hospital where they remain in critical conditions.

The building suffered extensive damage as its roof and walls had wide cracks in them, reports said.
