Ramnavmi Peaceful
Patna: Mar. 27, 2007
People in Bihar on Tuesday, amidst elaborate security arrangements, celebrated Ramnavmi by making a beeline at various temples in the city though the biggest crowd-puller was none other than the Mahavir Temple outside Patna Junction where the queue backed up all the way to the R-Block.
Along the roadside, the administration and several private sponsors had set up stalls offering water, sherbet, and temporary shelters with chairs for a very disciplined and patient crowd.
The temple opened its door at 1:30 am to accommodate a large number of devotees though by 4:00 am, several hundred men, women, and children had already gathered inside the temple to avoid the day rush.
While state Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Ranjan Sinha and Industry Minister Gautam Singh preferred to pray at the Mahavir Temple, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, and Assembly chairperson Uday Narain Chowdhary chose to go to the Gardanibagh Thakurbari where they wished for a peaceful prosperous Bihar.
There was no report of any untoward incident from any part of the state capital though a woman narrowly avoided getting burnt, thanks to some quick-thinking good Samaritans in the temple, when her sari caught fire as she prayed at the Hanuman Temple near Krishna Apartments under Srikrishna Puri police station.
Meanwhile, a number of Ramnavmi Shobha Yatra (procession) was taken out by various private organizations. Sushil Kumar Modi, former Central Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Dr. C. P. Thakur, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Arun Kumar Sinha, Ganga Prasad, and Nitin Navin also participated in the procession organized by the Sri Ramnavami Shobha Yatra Committee.
The members of Sri Sai Baba Seva Sansthan also took out a procession complete with elephants, camels, horses, and a band playing religious tunes passing through the major streets of Patna.
