Criminal Recaptured following Escape from Danapur Court

Patna: Mar. 30, 2007

The Danapur police, a day after the daring escape of notorious criminal Guddu Chowdhary from the police custody in Danapur court, recaptured him following intensive raids at various places in Patna on Friday, Danapur DSP Pramod Kumar Mandal said.

Acting on some tips received by the police, raids were conducted in Patna where Guddu Chowdhary was believed to be in hiding. He was taken into custody from a rented house and was sent back to the Beur Jail, Mandal said.

Facing charges on a number of crimes including murders, Chowdhary was brought to Danapur court on Thursday amidst very lax security arrangement. He managed to untie his hands while the police entrusted to bring him to the court left him and other under-trial prisoners unattended giving him an opportunity to free himself and disappear in the crowd.

Authorities are looking into the role of the policeman in Chowdhary's escape.
