Mahavir Jayanti Celebrated in Patna

Patna: Mar. 31, 2007

The Jain community in Patna on Saturday took out a lavish procession complete with band and religious songs to mark the 2607th anniversary of the Lord Mahavir while spreading the message of peace and non-violence as preached by the Lord himself.

The procession started at the Sri Digambar Jain Mandir in Mithapur and after passing through Gandhi Maidan, Exhibition Road, Dak Bungalow crossing, Birchand Patel Marg, and R-Block, arrived at the Sahu Jain Bhawan where they celebrated the Lord's anniversary with food, music, and cultural shows.

"Violence and killings can be reduced only by following up on the philosophy of Bhagwan Mahavir," Sri Prabhawanmati Mataji, in her sermon, told the devotees.

She also denounced feticide saying it was a sin and the Lord could never forgive one for such despicable acts.

"One should practice the philosophy of 'let and let live' and that would be the only way to attain peace in the world," the spiritual leader said.
