Cop Accused of Murder May Face Death Penalty
Patna: May 2, 2007
The Patna police is searching for three men in connection with the brutal murder of Patna businessman Rajesh Kumar whose severed body was found mutilated in Bidupur in Hajipur district and Jamal Road in Patna last Monday.
As reported, the police have already arrested Pawan Singh, a city cop, who has given a detailed account of the gruesome killing of Rajesh Kumar in his confessional statement.
Singh lured his victim on the pretext of selling a motorcycle to him. During the test drive of the vehicle, Rajesh Kumar was taken to an empty building in Shastrinagar where he was beheaded by Singh and his three associates Vikas, Roshan and Manoj who are all said to be absconding.
The police, based on the information provided by the murder mastermind himself, have recovered the murder weapon – a sickle - from the building in Shsatrinagar, city Superintendent of Police (SP) Anwar Hussain said on Wednesday.
Pawan Singh was given a job in the Patna police after the sudden and premature death of his father Satyendra Singh who worked at special branch of the police, officials said.
Meanwhile, the police may seek death penalties for Pawan Singh and his partners in crime because of the brutality with which his victim was killed and his head severed and burnt to hide his identity, officials said.
