Patna: May 4, 2007
Governor R. S. Gavai on Friday, by lighting a lamp at the Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna, concluded the three-day Buddha festival amidst plays and dances based on Lord Buddha's life and teachings that kept the audience enthralled for hours.
Dozens of artists from various parts of the country took part in plays that depicted different aspects of the Buddha including his attainment of enlightenment and the nirvana.
"There is no state in India that has more heritage than Bihar and despite its cultural decline in last few years, the state is destined to reclaim its status as a world-class cultural center with the message of peace for the rest of the world," the Governor said.
State Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav said work on the four-lane highways to interlink the Buddhist circuit would begin early next year that would enormously boost the tourism industry in the state.
Art and Cultural Minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal, in his welcome speech, said the Buddha celebration that officially opened in Bihar on October 27 last year was a grand success and helped Bihar regain some of its glories of its golden past.
"Lord Buddha is the epitome of peace and love and the Bihar government is determined to follow up on his preaching to develop the state and restore its fame that it once enjoyed," Sigriwal said.
