Anti-social elements within the Patna University students community, on Saturday at B. N. College and Vanijya Mahavidyala, went on a rampage in protest against the administration's attempts to put a stop on cheating in LLB Part I and II exams and engaged in brick-batting with the police while destroying university properties.
The miscreants tore up the test papers and took several university officials hostage for over an hour demanding a free-for-all atmosphere inside the test centers.
The police then used force to disperse the overly-agitated students. At least three students were injured in the lathi charge and were taken to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for treatment.
According to the police report, the exams started at the two centers at 2:00 pm on Saturday. Not much later, a group of university officials including the proctor, examination controller, and an observer arrived at B. N. College and took out three students for cheating in the exam.
This led to an all out protest by the examinees who tore up the test papers and answer sheets forcing other students to boycott the exam. Some students took the principal and other college officials hostage in a room and misbehaved with them.
When the police intervened, the crowd moved on to Vanijya Mahavidyala where they forced other examinees to get out of the building before vandalizing the class rooms. They also pelted stones at the police squad resulting in a lathi charge during which three students were injured.
