Railway security guards on Howrah-Amritsar Express on Saturday morning opened fire at a group of robbers near Dumraon and managed to catch one fleeing criminal and recovered several stolen items from him though his associates managed to escape with the victims' belongings.

The incident occurred at around 5:30 am near Turiganj railway station when 7-8 criminals entered in the S3 Sleeper compartment. At gun and knife points, the criminals started to snatch jewelries, cash, cell phones, and other items from the passengers.

Hearing the scream for help from the aggrieved passengers, a group of railway police jawans who were traveling in the some coach, rushed to their help and opened a search for the robbers.

When the train stopped at Dumraon, the women victims identified the criminals trying to get off from the train.

Seeing the police, the criminals opened fire at them to which the police also reacted by firing at them. While most robbers managed to escape, the police caught up with one of the robbers who was given a good thrashing before being taken to the railway police station.
