Wife's Complaint Leads to Husbands Arrest

Patna: May 6, 2007

The Patna police, on Sunday, after a raid at the residence of retired jail superintendent Dashrath Prasad Singh in Rajiv Nagar under Pataliputra police station, arrested engineer Kaushal Kishore and sent him to Beur Jail for torturing, both physically and mentally, his wife of six years.

As reported, Preeti Singh, the daughter of High Court advocate Janardan Singh, was being tortured by her husband and in-laws soon after their wedding in 2001. First it was for not bringing adequate dowry in the marriage and then for not giving birth to a baby boy, the in-laws beat up Preeti, also an engineer by education, resulting in many sleepless nights.

Tired of all the abuse hurled at her, Preeti filed an FIR against her husband and in-laws with the Pataliputra police station on Saturday.

At a raid conducted after midnight on Saturday, the police arrested the husband and after producing him before a court on Sunday, sent him to Beur Jail in judicial custody.

Preeti's in-laws' arrest is pending further investigation, the police said.

At a press conference on Sunday, Preeti said she would not go back to her in-law's house ever again and would prefer to live alone with her 4-year old daughter than endure the abuse that she was forced to live with for last six years.
