Railway Contractor Shot Dead in Sonepur

Patna: May 6, 2007

Just days after gangsters in Patna gunned down contractor Ajay Kumar Singh, criminals on Gandak Bridge in Sonepur on Saturday night shot and killed a railway contractor as he returned to his home on a motorcycle with his business associate, officials in Hajipur said.

The victim, identified as Rajesh Kumar Singh, was on the motorcycle with his associate Pawan Kumar Singh when at the western end of the bridge, they entered into an argument with some drunken men who refused to give them pass to go through.

Suddenly one of the men in inebriated condition pulled out a pistol and shot the contractor from a very close range. While the criminals fled after the incident, Singh was brought to a local hospital in Sonepur where he was administered first aid before being rushed to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH).

He later died at the hospital, the police said.

Based on the description of the criminals provided by the victim's associate, the police is searching the area to apprehend them.
