Patna: May 7, 2007
Heavily armed criminals in Jamalpur on early Monday morning dragged a railways employee after he refused to submit to their extortion demands and riddled his body with bullets killing him on the spot, officials in Jamalpur said.
The incident took place near Sarobag halt between Jamalpur and Kiul when the victim who was identified as Bhuneshwar Thakur, 45, was dragged out of a labor commuter train and shot several times by a gang of criminals.
Three bullets pierced his head, one hit his stomach, and yet another hit him in the leg.
Dharhara police station in-charge Rajiv Chowdhary took Thakur's body in custody and sent it to a Munger hospital for an autopsy.
Police said the victim, a resident of Sarobag, was being blackmailed by a gang of criminals for having an extra-marital relationship with a woman. To avoid further harassment, Thakur moved from Sarobag to Kajra about a year ago.
On Monday, he was going to the railway factory in Jamalpur when the criminals caught up with him, dragged him out of the train, and shot him to death in Govindpur Bahiyar village.
The police recovered several empty cartridges of .303 bore from the crime scene.
