Patna: May 9, 2007
The Patna Zoo on Wednesday added two new attractions as Gary and Lali, the mother and daughter rhinos, arrived at the Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Garden from the world' most renowned zoo in San Diego in California, USA in exchange for two Patna hippos Rustam and Bhonpu.
The trade came with the help of International Rhino Foundation with the goal to promote cross-breeding between different varieties of rhinos and hippos, Patna Zoo assistant director Subhash Chandra said.
Seven-year old Gary is pregnant and is expected to deliver the baby sometimes in October, he said adding Lali, on the other hand, is only 1-year old and is expected to adjust to her new environment quite smoothly.
