Naxals Gun Down SAP Jawan in Khagaria

A Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) jawan was killed in an encounter between the police and Maoist guerillas at Chikni village in Khagaria on Wednesday during which more than two hundred rounds were fired from both sides, DIG, Kosi range, Sohaib Akhtar said.

According to the reports, more than a hundred Naxalites surrounded a police outpost in Khagaria and opened fire at a dozen or so SAP jawans inside the building.

In the battle one jawan was killed while another received non-life threatening injuries from flying shrapnel, the police said.

They also looted a police rifle before leaving the crime scene, officials said.

It is not clear if there were any casualty among the ultras as well.

A combing operation was launched to apprehend the extremists, Akhtar said.
