Ankit Abduction Accused Changes his Statement Again

Patna: May 11, 2007

The key accused in the abduction and possible murder of 6-year old Ankit, on Thursday, once again changed his account insisting the boy who was kidnapped from his school on April 12, was in fact murdered the same day with the help of an accomplice whose whereabouts are not known.

Balram Paswan, the domestic help at the victim's house and the key accused in the abduction-murder of Ankit, during his intense grilling in Patna on Thursday, less than 12 hours after he told the police that the boy was alive when he last saw him, went back to his original story saying Ankit was killed and buried at the bank of Saryu river.

With Paswan already in police custody, authorities have now shifted their focus on his partner in crime Sanjay Rajak who continues to evade the law from reaching him.

"Though with the passage of each day, the chances of recovering Ankit alive diminishes considerably, we are still hopeful and pray for his safe recovery," said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kundan Krishnan.

As reported before, authorities dug up a large area where Paswan said Ankit's body was buried but the police did not recover any human remains from the site.

Meanwhile, two people in Chhapra have come forward saying they had seen Sanjay with a boy who fits the description of Ankit on April 13 indicating he was probably alive till then further making holes in Paswan's account who earlier said Ankit was killed the day he was kidnapped – on April 12.

Raids are being conducted in many areas to nab Sanjay Rajak.
