Sheila Dixit Tenders her Apology; Sort of
New Delhi: May 11, 2007
Following a meeting with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and ruckus in the Parliament, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday, read a written apology for her unflattering remarks about people of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh though she continued to blame the media for 'twisting' her remarks.
Dikshit, in a hurriedly convened press meet, read the written apology saying she had no intention to hurt anyone's feeling but she was sorry for the unfortunate incident.
"My remarks were twisted by a certain section of the media but if I have inadvertently hurt the sentiments of some people then I am truly sorry for it," the Delhi Chief Minister said.
Copies of her apology were also distributed among media persons.
As reported before, Dikshit, while laying the foundation stones of three new flyovers in Delhi on Wednesday, had said that because of people migrating from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Delhi's infrastructure was overburdened.
"These people come to Delhi from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh but don't ever go back causing burden on Delhi's infrastructure," she had said during the laying of the foundation stone.
On Thursday, the students wing of the Janata Dal (U) in Patna burnt the effigy of Dikshit accusing her of being divisive for political gains.
