Former MLA in Collusion with Contractor's Killer?
Patna: May 11, 2007
Neeraj Kumar Singh, a gun shop owner in Patna on Friday, in his sworn testimony in the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Shobha Kant Mishra in connection with the murder of Patna contractor Ajay Kumar Singh, said three men, including the chief accused Sanjay Singh, at the behest of former legislator Ram Naresh Singh, came to his shop to surrender a pistol and some cartridges on a back date.
That was on April 3, the same day Ajay Singh was killed.
In his statement, Neeraj said he received a call from the former MLA Ram Naresh Singh who said he was sending three men to him and he should take back his licensed gun and ammos on April 2 date.
In the afternoon, Sanjay Singh arrived at the gun shop with two other men. They asked Neeraj to take back the gun on a back date. When Neeraj refused, they threatened of dire consequences and forcibly took him to another gun shop in Chhapra but the owner of the shop also refused to take back the gun on a previous date.
From there, they took Neeraj to yet another shop in Biharsharif where they wanted him to use his influence to persuade the owner to take back the gun on back date saying because of the local body elections coming up soon, they could not carry gun until the polls were over.
When the Biharsharif dealer also refused to take back the gun, they pushed Neeraj out of the car and left, the complainant said in his testimony.
Meanwhile, the former MLA refuted Neeraj's account saying though he did call him to take back the gun, he never said anything about taking it back on a previous date.
"An acquaintance of mine called me on April 3 saying his relative Sanjay Singh needed to surrender his arms in view of the upcoming elections. I then called Neeraj Singh but there was no talk of any back-dating as alleged by him," Ram Naresh Singh said insisting he had no knowledge of the murder of contractor Ajay Singh at that time.
