Storm Kills Many Across the State

Photo by Shashi UttamOver two dozen people were reported to have died and many injured in a major thurnderstorm that hit Patna district and other parts of the state on late Friday night destroying properties and crops to the tune of over Rs. 4 crore, officials in Patna said on Saturday.

In Patna, a railway employee died when a tree fell on him.

The incident occurred near Kargil Chowk under Gandhi Maidan police station. P. K. Das of Muradpur was walking on the street near Mona cinema when the gusty wind uprooted the tree falling on him killing him instantly.

A crane had to be brought in to remove the tree and pull out the body of the victim.

In Fatuha, two men, including a school teacher, died when the roof over them collapsed in high wind.

Reports of death also arrived from Samastipur where people were reported to have died. In Darbhanga, 5 casualties were reported while deaths were also reported from Ara, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Biharsharif, Siwan and Madhubani.

The storm also disrupted railway services and power supply throughout the state leaving many people stranded at various railway stations.
