Ten More Hindi-Speaking Killed by ULFA in Assam
Patna: May 16, 2007
A day after ULFA extremists shot dead six Biharis in Assam on Tuesday, four more Hindi-speaking residents were killed by the banned outfit earning a well-deserved criticism from all quarters including from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who, just a day after the cremation of his wife, accused the Central and Assam government of sweeping the issue under the rug for political gains.
The latest wave of killing took place in Gola Ghat where criminals shot dead businessmen Tarkeshwar Sahu, Deepak Agrawal, Srinath Agrawal, and another person whose identity was yet to be ascertained.
Reports said ULFA terror kingpin Jiten Datta had openly made threats to all those who had protested against an ULFA rally a few days ago.
Demanding complete security of all Biharis in Assam, the Chief Minister talked with his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday and insisted on a complete stop on such genocide against Hindi-speaking people in Assam.
"This is a major concern for us and such massacres must not be repeated in future," Kumar said.
Former Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rabri Devi also condemned the latest violence against Biharis in Assam and urged the Prime Minister to intervene and put a stop on such incidents.
She also appealed to the Bihar Chief Minister to make available more job opportunities for the youths of Bihar so they do not have to migrate to other states.
