Wanted Criminal to become Witness against Shahabuddin
Patna: May 17, 2007
Trouble for the Siwan MP Mohammed Shahabuddin continues to grow by the day as a witness in the 2001 murder of Munna Chowdhary, Rajkumar Sharma, absconding criminal, is believed to have agreed to surrender before the Bihar police and testify against the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader who has already been convicted in one murder case.
Interestingly, nearly two dozen witnesses in the case, either voluntarily or under pressure from power that be, have already turned hostile making it very difficult for the officials to pursue the case.
Sources said Sharma who has been running from the law for years for his involvement in dozens of criminal cases, has contacted senior state police officials through an acquaintance expressing his desire to surrender and testify against Shahabuddin.
As reported, the Siwan MP, in 2001, arrived at Rampur village in Siwan district with his henchmen with the intention to kill Sharma and Munna Chowdhary. While Sharma managed to escape, Chowdhary was not so lucky and was caught by Shahabuddin and killed.
While the authorities refused to confirm about Sharma's desire to surrender, they concurred it would be a huge blow to Shahabuddin's case who already faces over three dozen cases that, if convicted in even half of them, could keep him incarcerated until he remains alive.
Meanwhile, officials in Siwan jail, on Thursday, lodged yet another case against the Siwan MP after authorities recovered mobile phones from his jail cell last Tuesday.
