Fire in State Bank Causes Destruction worth Several Lakh

Patna: May 17, 2007

Nearly six weeks after a raging fire gutted most of the Bank of Baroda on Dak Bungalow Road in Patna causing damages well over several lakh rupees, yet another fire in Thursday destroyed properties of State Bank of India near Kurji Hospital forcing people in the neighborhood to evacuate their houses and run for safety.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning. At first some people reported some smoke coming out of the bank building. Soon the smoke paved way for a raging fire threatening other buildings in the neighborhood.

It took a little over two hours for two fire trucks to finally get the fire under control.

Bank branch manager Y. N. S. Jha said all documents were safe in the building though furniture, computers, and some parts of the building were damaged in the fire.

The police is looking into the cause of fire though electrical short-circuit has not been ruled out.
