Passengers Robbed on Mathura-Patna Express

Ara: May 18, 2007

Armed robbers on the weekly Mathura-Patna 3288 Down Express on Friday night attacked the S3 and S4 coach of the train and escaped with cash and valuables to the tune of several thousand rupees, railway officials in Patna said.

As reported, eight criminals ranging in age between 20 and 25, entered into the S4 compartment soon after the train left Ara station. Pulling guns and large knives, the robbers ordered the 15 passengers to hand over their cash, valuables, and cell phones.

The criminals then moved on to the S3 compartment where they relieved nearly two dozen passengers of their cash and other possessions. When one passenger tried to put up a resistance, he was brutally beaten by the robbers who then got off the train at Samsara village by pulling the emergency chain.

Aggrieved passengers reported the robbery at Danapur station.

Raids are being conducted to apprehend the criminals, Railway Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajitabh Kumar said.
