Shahabuddin's Troubles Continue to Mount
Patna: May 19, 2007
In what could be very damaging to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP from Siwan Mohammed Shahabuddin, notorious criminal Rajkumar Sharma, during his testimony before a police team on Saturday following his surrender, said it was the MP who killed Munna Chowdhary in 1991.
Sharma said on January 6, 2001, he was roaming around on a motorcycle with his friend Munna Chowdhary in Vishunpur village when Shahabuddin, accompanied by his goons Rama Chowdhary, Manoj Das, Jawahar Chowdhary, and Pappu Srivastava arrived in three separate cars and opened indiscriminate firing at them.
One bullet struck the tire of the motorcycle causing them to hit the ground. Shahabuddin then fired one shot at Munna Chowdhary's leg and then dragged him into one of the vehicles and fled, Sharma told the police.
"Later, I learnt that Munna was killed and dumped into an abandoned chimney," he said.
Later, Shahabuddin's men continued to search for Sharma but he remained on run to avoid his capture, he said in his interrogation adding he was attacked more than a dozen times but he always managed to escape.
"I wanted to go to school but Shahabuddin falsely implicated me in fake criminal cases forcing me to adopt a career of crime," Sharma said.
The state is preparing to produce Sharma as the key prosecution witness in the Munna Chowdhary murder case.
The court will hold a hearing in the case on May 25.
