CM Returns to Work
Patna: May 28, 2007
After a gap of nearly five weeks, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar arrived at his office at Patna Secretariat on Monday to catch up on things that had been put on hold due to his wife's illness and her subsequent death on May 14 leaving the bureaucrats to run the government in the absence of Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi who had been on a two-week Australia, Singapore trip to study their tax structure.
Kumar, still reeling with the untimely death of his wife Manju Sinha, arrived at his office at around 11:00 am and stayed there until late evening talking to senior officers and other staff.
In a meeting with Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah and Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Ranjan Sinha, the Chief Minister went over the law and order situation in Bihar including getting reports on many unresolved criminal cases that had been in the headlines during the period of his absence.
Sources said Kumar asked the DGP to follow up more rigorously on all pending criminal cases including those of abductions and murders that have given the Opposition plenty of reasons to criticize the NDA government.
