Local municipal polls in Bihar lived up to its ill reputation on Thursday when supporters of various candidates outside A. N. College where votes were being counted created ruckus after news of some candidates losing the election started to trickle in.

In the beginning, some goons, defying the prohibitive orders, tried to scale the college wall while demanding re-polling at some booths. When the police tried to stop them, they became even more belligerent and attacked the police with stones and other objects.

Before long, it was an all out chaos as police chased the miscreants and resorted to lathi-charge in which dozens of people were hurt.

Similar scenes were enacted outside the office of the state election commission where losers complained of massive bungling in the election and demanded recounting and re-polling.

Meanwhile, several veteran politicians lost their bids to their younger competition. The biggest winner was incumbent Deepak Chaurasia who won by a margin of 2200 votes in ward number 2, the person to win by the smallest margin was another incumbent Abha Lata who was declared winner by a razor thin margin of 2 votes in ward number 4.

Among the prominent losers were Sadhu Gope, Manju Devi, Sushma Sahu, Panchu Gope, Amravati Devi, and Baidyanath Yadav.
