NDA Calls Bandh Flop; Unnecessary
Patna: Nov. 2, 2007
Janata Dal (U) leaders in Patna characterized the Friday's state-wide bandh in protest against assault on press reporters by JD-U legislator Anant Singh as unnecessary, disruptive, and merely 'a drama staged by the power-hungry Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders' who were morally bankrupt and a pack of hypocrites.
"Hundreds of scribes and cameramen were assaulted by RJD goons during the long, 15 years of Lalu-Rabri regime. Even Rabri Devi's brothers have been in news for assaulting journalists and state officials. Not one person was ever charged or arrested. And now these people have the nerve to accuse the NDA government of protecting the criminals," said Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Radha Mohan Singh.
"We have all the intention of pulling out all old files of RJD leaders attacking journalists and others and have them face the speedy trial courts to ensure justice is served to all," he said.
The BJP leader, while saying the attack on the journalists was a shameful event and a smear on the reputation of Bihar government, the opposition rally that ensued was in fact an attempt to hide the utter failure of the RJD's recently concluded 'Chetawani Rally'.
"These people (RJD leaders) have seen the writings on the wall. The so-called 'Chetawani Rally' was a huge flop. RJD is finished in Bihar for a long time to come and this is clearly bothering its top leadership. Now they are looking for any excuse to derail the Nitish government which wasted no time in getting Anant Singh and ask for a CBI probe into the shameful incident," said the BJP leader.
BJP leaders Kiran Ghai and Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, JD-U national spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari and state secretary Anil Pathak also criticized the RJD and other opposition parties to give a political color to an incident which was condemned by one and all irrespective of one's party affiliation.
