Anand Mohan, other Death Row Inmates Moved to Bhagalpur
Patna: Nov. 3, 2007
Former MP and capital punishment recipient Anand Mohan, along with former minister Akhlaq Ahmed, and Prof. Arun Kumar and six other death row inmates, on Saturday, were shifted from Patna's Beur Jail to the high-security Bhagalpur jail under immense security, officials at Beur Jail said on Saturday night.
Mohan, Ahmed, and Kumar, who were all given death penalties for their involvement in the 1994 lynching murder of Gopalganj District Magistrate G. Krishnaiah were moved to the Bhagalpur Jail in a special prison van with a posse of law-enforcement officials surrounding the van.
The entire operation was kept secret from the family of the incarcerated leaders and from the media to avoid a frenzy that followed after the court handed out the death penalty to the three men last September.
The three leaders are expected to be kept in separate cells in Bhagalpur Jail, officials in Patna said.
All nine death-row inmates have appealed their cases with higher courts though it could be months, if not years, before their hearing date is set by the court.
