Kajal's Former Lover Taken into Custody; Denies Role in her Murder
Patna: Nov. 6, 2007
The police in Patna on Tuesday took one Ranjit Yadav, the alleged lover of Kajal whose decomposed body was recovered from Patel Nagar a few days ago causing a political controversy for four days, into custody to get to the bottom of the so-called Reshma Khatoon case.
Using Yadav's future father-in-law and his brother, the police lured him to meet them at a public place from where he was taken into custody.
During the interrogation, Yadav admitted of once being in love with Kajal but said their relationship ended nearly a year ago and since then they had remained just friends.
Denying his involvement in the Kajal murder case, Ranjit Yadav said he had not seen the victim in over a month and had no idea that she had been killed.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of police Kundan Krishnan said Yadav appeared to be telling the truth and may be allowed to go by tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kiran Ghai criticized the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for concocting the story of Reshma Khatoon and her fictitious brother Munna with the intention to topple the NDA government in Bihar.
"Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi are gravely upset about the turn of events in the last few days. They had hoped to bring down the government by adding the surname Khatoon to the victim's name. That plan, however, failed as the deceased turned out to be Reshma and so far there is no evidence that a girl named Reshma Khatoon ever existed," Ghai said.
Ghai suggested a full probe into the so-called Reshma episode saying those who fabricated the story should be punished to the full extent of the law.
