Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accompanied by the Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey and a number of senior officials, visited the ghats of Patna to review the preparedness for Bihar's most revered festival Chhath that falls on 16th and 17th of this month.
Not too please with the arrangements, the Chief Minister took the officials to task for not completing the clean-up job early enough for the festival.
"These ghats are in a shamble with foul odor filling the environment. How can one perform puja under these conditions?" Kumar grumbled.
The Chief Minister began his survey tour on a government boat from the Bankipore Club ghat at around 2:30 pm. Covering every single ghat between the club and Khajekalan, he ordered the officials to ensure the clean-up job was undertaken on a war-footing level and the ghats were kept clean throughout the year and not just during the Chhath festival.
"The number of tourists in Bihar is growing by leaps and bounds. We should keep the entire bank of Ganga in a spic and span condition all 12 months of the year if we want this trend to continue," he said.
Concerned about the city filth being dumped in the Ganges, Kumar directed the authorities to get the sewerage treatment plant repaired without delay and install temporary rest rooms at all ghats for the convenience of all Chhath observers.
District Magistrate Dr. B. Rajendra and City Commissioner Rana Awadhesh Singh was also with the Chief Minister during the Ganga visit.
