JD-U Leader Anant Singh, Four others, Get Bail in Assault Case

Patna: Nov. 7, 2007

Anant Singh, along with four others accused in the assault on media reporters, amidst protest by the prosecutors, were granted bails by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Raghavendra Kumar Singh leading to their freedom after remaining in jail for less than a week.

The accused, after posting two bails of Rs. 10,000 each, walked out of Patna's Beur Jail vowing to 'expose those who conspired with the opposition to bring down the Nitish government'.

Describing the wounds of the reporters attacked by Singh and his musclemen as minor, the court admitted the bails submitted by the defendants' lawyers Navin Kumar and Shailesh Kumar Singh.

Besides Anant Singh, others who successfully obtained the get-out-of-the-jail free pass included Shivshankar Singh, Amit Kumar, Vipin Kumar, and Mukesh Kumar Singh.

Surrounded by his followers, Anant Singh said the whole episode was hatched by the opposition leaders to malign him and the Nitish government and vowed to expose all those who were involved in this conspiracy.
