Patna'ites in Spending Mood for Dhanteras

Photo by Shashi UttamPeople in Patna on Wednesday made a beeline at various shops and popular shopping centers to make purchases of traditional items like pots and pans and jewelries made of gold and silver, while also engaging in buying household items like refrigerator, TV, DVD players, washers and dryers, and even brand new vehicles to celebrate Dhanteras marking the beginning of Diwali, the festival of lights.

Shopping complexes on Dak Bungalow crossing, Frazer Road, Boring Road, Ashok Rajpath, Kadam Kuan, Station Road, Kankarbagh, Sheikhpura, and many others witnessed heavy crowd with women leading the men to buy items of their choice.

Dhanteras shopping in Patna. Photo by Shashi UttamWith Diwali only a couple of days ahead, all the shopping centers have been decorated appropriately with lights to reflect the mood of the season that also somehow sends people in a buying frenzy.

The heaviest crowd, however, was seen at the 'bartan' shops in Kadam Kuan, Ashok Rajpath, and Station Road where vendors selling stainless steel pots and pans were enjoying the sweet sound of the cash registers indicating a dramatic rise in sale over previous years.
