Former Energy Minister Tries to Set Records Straight
Patna: Nov. 8, 2007
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Shyam Rajak on Thursday lashed back at the Energy Minister Vijendra Yadav on his earlier comment to dump the Navinagar power plant project saying Yadav needed to get his facts straight before criticizing the Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav who, he said, sealed the deal between the Railways and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to set up the 1000 megawatt power plant in Bihar.
Rajak said that the NTPC had agreed to give 100 megawatt of energy to Bihar and not 58 MW as declared by Yadav.
"Instead of thanking the Railway Minister, the Energy Minister is spewing venom and threatening to abandon the entire project that could be a lifesaver for the energy-starved Bihar," Rajak said.
Yadav, while talking to reporters on Wednesday, had said that the state was reconsidering its decision to provide land and water to the Navinagar project in view of the fact that Bihar was allocated 58 megawatt of 1000 megawatt power to be produced at the new plant.
"This is in clear violation of the energy protocols that states that Bihar is entitled to get a minimum of 10% of the total power generation. By that account, Bihar's legitimate share comes to 100 megawatt and if the state does not get at least that much, the state will be forced to rethink its decision to go along with the plan," Yadav had said.
