Diwali Peaceful and Full of Enthusiasm
Patna: Nov. 10, 2007
People in Patna celebrated Diwali on Friday with more fervor than ever before clearly indicating a rise in hope and enthusiasm among the people who had, for years, kept their emotions and zest bottled up considering the pathetic economic and political condition of the state.
After the Ganesh and Lakshmi puja, it was the time to pull out that pile of fireworks that lit the sky over Patna bright till the wee hours on Saturday as buildings and shopping centers took the spotlight with their superb, flashing light decorations displaying some amazing electrical art and wizardry.
In several localities including Bengali Akhara, devotees thronged to see the statue of Goddess Kali to celebrate Kali Puja that coincides with Diwali.
Despite several appeals by a number of private groups to reduce the usage of fireworks to minimize pollution, people in Patna were in no mood to pay any heed to the warnings as the sky filled with new, improved display of fireworks while filling the environment with sounds loud enough to keep even the most hard-to-hear individuals awake all night long.
While some incidents of burns were reported at the local hospitals, none was said to be life-threatening. At least one individual was reported burnt in Patna City area and had to be rushed to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for burn injuries on his arms and other parts of his body.
No incident of any serious fire was reported from the Patna metro area.
