Marufganj Businessman Shot Dead on Diwali Night

Borrowing a page from the script of the '70s blockbuster Zanjeer, criminals in Patna, on Friday night, taking advantage of the firecrackers filling in the atmosphere due to Diwali, walked into the Marufganj grocer Shivlal Prasad Yadav's shop and showered him with bullets before escaping on motorcycles.
Yadav, 50, died on the spot.
Police suspects his former help Ranjit Gope behind Yadav's killing.
Malsalami police station in-charge Anoj Kumar said Ranjit had just been released from the prison where he spent nearly two years after stealing over Rs. 2 lakh from Yadav's shop when he worked there as a helper.
Ranjit. the son of Surendra Prasad Yadav, after coming out of the prison, had made extortion demands from the businessman which could may have been cause for his murder, the police said.
Businessmen in Marufganj observed a day-long bandh in protest against the killing of one of their own community members.
Demanding immediate arrests of Yadav's killers, the traders' association threatened to go on an indefinite strike that could paralyze commodity trading in the state.
