Minister's Son Arrested by the anti-Gambling Squad

Hajipur: Nov. 10, 2007

The police in Hajipur, following a raid at a house in the Pokhra locality on early Saturday morning, arrested a dozen persons, including Prashant Patel, the son of state Human Resources Minister Brishan Patel for indulging in gambling activities involving several lakh rupees and heavy use of alcoholic drinks.

Tipped by some unnamed sources, the police raided the house of one Shailesh Rai and caught 12 persons playing cards with a large amount of cash on the table.

Besides the Human Resources Minister's son, among others to be arrested were the mukhia of Chandi Panchayat Nand Kishoare Singh, Nafees Khan of Hajipur and nine other persons, Hajipur police station in-charge Yashwant Kumar Singh said.

The police seized the cash totaling nearly 1.35 lakh.

All men, however, were later released on bail.

FIRs have been lodged against all men involved in the case, the police said.
