LJP MP Surajbhan Named in APP Murder Case

Patna: Nov. 10, 2007

In an FIR filed by Prabhakar Kumar Sharma, the son of Ram Naresh Sharma, the Additional Public Prosecutor in Begusarai who was shot and killed at his home on Thursday, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Surajbhan Singh and three others were named as the chief accused in the case.

"My father is the victim of a well-conceived plan hatched by the MP from Ballia Surajbhan Singh," Prabhakar Sharma, who along with his father, was handling the case against the LJP MP for his alleged involvement in the much-publicized Rami Singh murder case.

In his police report, Sharma said he was sitting with his father and drinking tea when three men in a Pulsar motorcycle arrived at their rented house and asked to see his father in connection with a legal case.

The public prosecutor invited the men upstairs in his office and asked his son to bring a glass of water for him.

Finding Sharma alone, the two youths opened fire at him and then dashed for their escape on their motorcycle while saying that anyone who came in the way of Surajbhan would face similar consequences, Prabhakar Sharma said in his police report.

Meanwhile, Surajbhan Singh has denied the allegations of his involvement in the murder of the public prosecutor calling the whole thing a conspiracy hatched by his political enemies to malign him and his party.

Demanding a CBI enquiry into the case, Surajbhan Singh appealed to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of launching an enquiry and nab the real killers of Sharma without delay.

Earlier, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Abhayanand visited Begusarai and took a look of the crime scene.

"The police is doing its job and we hope to catch Sharma's killers soon and initiate speedy trials against them," Abhayanand said.

Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Pashupati Kumar Paras and legislator Sanjay Singh, while talking to reporters in Patna on Saturday said the timing of Sharma's murder was meant to coincide with the LJP's rally against the Nitish government to give bad publicity to the event.

"Sharma was handling a number of high-profile cases and not just the case involving the Ballia MP Surajbhan Singh so it would be highly improper, even criminal, to suggest without any investigation that the LJP MP was behind the public prosecutor's murder," Paras, the brother of LJP president and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said.
