Surajbhan has been Framed: Paswan

Patna: Nov. 11, 2007

Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leaders, in an effort to damage control in the wake of the murder of Begusarai Additional Public Prosecutor Ramnaresh Sharma with party MP Surajbhan Singh as the chief accused in the case, launched an offense against the Nitish government saying it had failed to control crime in the state and it would expose the government in the upcoming party rally in Patna.

Demanding a CBI enquiry into the killing of Sharma, Ram Vilas Paswan, during a press conference in Patna on Sunday, gave a clean chit to the MP saying his party would 'go to any extent to ensure Surajbhan is exonerated on all charges and his name is cleared in the case'.

Paswan, who appeared to be more concerned about the political future of Surajbhan Singh than the grieving family members of the victim, said the prosecutor's murder was a well-orchestrated plan by someone who wanted to malign the LJP just before the upcoming 'Sankalp' rally in Patna.

"The people of Begusarai know who killed Sharma and so does the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Abhayanand but they all are keeping their mouth shut for reasons known only to them," Paswan said without offering the basis of his statement.

LJP leader from Adapur, Sabir Ali, while donating Rs. 10 lakh to the party for the rally, said while he was not familiar with the past of Surajbhan Singh, currently there was no bigger social worker and sympathizer of poor than the Ballia MP – a contention not shared by most.

Insinuating that the state government could influence the case against Surajbhan, Ali said a CID enquiry was not acceptable and only a CBI investigation could separate truth from lies and rumors.
