Naxalites Blow up Block Office in Buxar District

Patna: Nov. 12, 2007

Maoist guerillas on late Sunday night in Buxar district blew up Kesath block office using powerful explosives sending a wave of panic in the area even as the state administration tried to downplay the blast saying the damage to the building was not as powerful as had been thought before.

"This was an ordinary incident and the damage was minimal but we are taking all precautions to ensure the extremists don't return to the area and execute any more of their sinister plans," Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah said.

The Home Secretary's shrug notwithstanding, there is a clear tension in the area where villagers were said to have gone into hiding anticipating more attacks.

Security has been tightened in Buxar and senior police officials are monitoring the situation closely, officials in Patna said on Monday.
