Gulzarbagh to be Renamed Azeemabad: Lalu

Patna: Nov. 13, 2007

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in Patna on Tuesday announced his decision to rename Gulzarbagh railway station to Azeemabad, Patna's old moniker during the Mughal period.

The announcement came when a delegate of Muslim leaders led by RJD MP Ramkripal Yadav met with the Railway Minister and requested him to rename the Gulzarbagh station to Azeemabad, a name given to Pataliputra by the grandson of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Azimush-Shan.

"We are working on to complete the formalities required in changing the name of a town and soon an official announcement will be made in this regard," Yadav said.

Among those who were present during the meeting included RJD minority committee former President Ejaz Ahmed, former MLC Anwar Ahmed, former MLA Nayyar Azam, state youth RJD general secretary Shahnawaz Alam, Professor M. A. Quddus, and many others.
